Objective
Policing soccer games with two local sides, without appearing to be heavy handed on an away side, can be a real challenge, so when Barsnley FC recently played Leeds United FC, South Yorkshire Police introduced a mobile big display screen, but with a difference. The mobile display unit was moved from location to location, targeting both home and away supporters; pre-produced content appeared on the screen displaying key messages. In addition, part of the screen was dedicated to live tweeting, from Police Officers communicating arrests that they had made, through to good safe pubs or bars to drink in. This approach of tweeting and displaying messages, allowed supporters from home and away to play a key role on the day, it was designed to be informative, whilst having fun. It also meant that the Police could display live vital updates to fans as they arrived at the stadium.
Target
Primarily this interactive screen was designed to communicate to home and away fans and allow the Police the opportunity to share Policing strategies, which gave supporters an insight in to the complex Policing, on the ground.
Results Many supporters including Police Officers, tweeted messages, whilst absorbing the key marketing messages also displayed on the screen. This approach broke down barriers between the Policing teams, home and away supporters.
